Frequently Asked Question

AEQ Phoenix
Last Updated 10 days ago

AEQ codecs are SIP and Opus enabled. When we last tested though, we found a few limitations. Notably...

  • The Opus bitrate must be fixed to say 32, 64 or 128 kbps.
  • The AEQ software doesn't accept a domain for STUN server, only an IP address.
  • We found NAT traversal to be a challenge, on some networks.

Given the complexity and visual nature of the Windows software, you may find it helpful to refer to this video tutorial:

Video:  Configure AEQ Phoenix codecs for sip.audio

CONFIGURATION

  1. Install and open AEQ's Control Phoenix software on a Windows computer.
  2. In the software, select the device that you would like to configure for sip.audio
  3. Click on Config, followed by General.
  4. Set Interface to SIP Proxy Based, and then click the IF Setup button.
  5. Now click on SIP Parameters, and then Manage Proxy SIP Accounts.
  6. Click New Account:
    Account Description: sip.audio
    Proxy Provider: sip.audio
  7. User name: SIP Username (For example, enter fmstation.alio for fmstation.alio@sip.audio)
    Authentication:
    User: SIP Username
    Password: SIP Username's Password
    Realm: sip.audio
  8. Click Apply.
  9. In the previous window, under Proxy SIP Accounts, choose sip.audio and click 'Yes'.
  10. Now click on Manage Providers and New Provider.
    Description: proxy.sip.audio
    Host: proxy.sip.audio
  11. Domain: sip.audio
  12. Click Add.
  13. In the previous window, under Proxy Provider, choose proxy.sip.audio and click 'Yes'.
  14. Click Apply.
  15. In the previous window, click Nat Traversal.
Note: In our tests from behind a NAT, we found that AUTO3 worked well.
For STUN, the AEQ software will only accept an IP address, so first, check its current IP address. This could change in the future.
  16. Enter the STUN IP address, and Click Apply, and also Apply in the previous window.
  17. In the previous window, click Advanced and Apply audio profile to incoming calls.
  18. Click Apply.
  19. Click Select Codec and choose Mono or Stereo, as required.
  20. You can now try calling the AEQ device, and click Accept in the AEQ software.
Note: At the time of writing, AEQ will only support a fixed bitrate for Opus, such as 32, 64 or 128; contrary to the Opus specs.
