Question fréquemment posée
Connecting to BBC Radio in London
- For news programmes such as Radio 4's Today Programme, see the specific section below.
You can call into the Comrex units in BBC Radio's MCR1 (formerly LCR) using their BBC SIP address from ipDTL's dialpad, or a sip.audio enabled client. An internal booking must be made first.
Somewhat frustratingly, it's not uncommon for the BBC to supply only the IP address of the unit. While this is of no use for SIP dialling, we do hold a list of the associated SIP addresses, so do get in touch with us, and we'll provide this to bona fide contributors.
The above metyhos is by far the easiest, but the BBC can also connect to sip.audio or ipDTL users by dialling their SIP address.
Should the above method fail, ipDTL and sip.audio users can enable 'Receive 3rd Party SIP' in their account settings and use the following workaround. These instructions are for the producer to pass onto the BBC's Network Bookings department...
- Configure Prodys Quantum for sip.audio calls:
- Navigate to Menu > Conf > Audio > Encoders
Algorithm: OPUS - Navigate to Menu > Streaming > Protocol > Server
Register in Server: No*
* If registered, the call will fail as it will try to route via the BBC SIP system - Call username@sip.audio
Connecting to BBC Radio News or Sport
BBC News are responsible for programmes such as Today on Radio 4, Newsday on the World Service, and Radio 5 live.
You can call into the Comrex units in BBC NewsLOC or Salford using their BBC SIP address from ipDTL's dialpad, or a sip.audio enabled client. We hold a list of these SIP addresses, so do get in touch with us, and we'll provide this to bona fide contributors.
The 5 live Hub in Salford can also use ipDTL to connect to sip.audio or ipDTL users by simply entering their ipDTL Username or SIP address in ipDTL's dialpad.
- Non-news programmes can connect via Master Control Room 1 in London. See the section above.
Connecting to BBC Local Radio
BBC Local Radio stations each have an allocation of Comrex units that are configured for SIP. Internally, they are referred to as IPCOM 1 etc.
You'll need to know the SIP address associated with the IPCOM unit which you wish to dial. Whilst these aren't publicly available, we do hold a list of them and will happily share them with bona fide contributors. Just raise a support ticket.
Connecting to BBC Scotland
BBC Scotland has an IP codec registered to the sip.audio service, along with many more which have BBC SIP addresses assigned. These can each be picked up in studios on their audio router.
ipDTL and sip.audio users can call these by entering their SIP Username or address. Contact In:Quality for specific details.
Connecting to BBC Wales or Northern Ireland
Similar to above, there are Comrex units in both Cardiff and Belfast, which have associated SIP addresses, which can be called from ipDTL or SIP clients registered to sip.audio
